Canon S95 Review

Canon S95 is a small, high quality and very advanced camera. If you're looking for a truly pocketable and high-end compact this camera is for you.

Handling & Feel

It is the only really pocketable camera in its class and at the same time it is not too small like Pentax Q. Shutter release and controls (ring and dpad) are conveniently placed. Changing photographic settings is a breeze.

Taking a Shot

Screen is full of information but it doesn't feel like crowded like its big brother Canon G12. Also for a newbie it's very easy to take good looking pictures. Camera boots up pretty fast. Shutter lag is barely noticable. In-camera operations feel smooth. Battery life is rather short for this price (~200 shots).

Shooting in Special Situations

Usable highest ISO for JPG output is 400 but if try harder go up to 800. If you shoot in RAW you can go with 1600. It had class leading low-light performance till Olympus XZ-1.

Having Fun with Filters

I think it has about 30 art filters. Fisheye, Miniature (tilt) and Nostalgic ones I like most. You can even mix them but I didn't try that.

Taking Video

It can shoot at 720p@24 fps video. It outputs a .mov file. I didn't take lots of videos but I think it has continous autofocus and this can be very handy for recording your child's soccer game.

Pro Features

IS: reduces shakes Ring control: you can change settings from ring. Full Manual Controls Big sensor
